Solomon E. Gillis, retired, died at the home of his son, west of this city at 11:45 a.m. Sunday following an illness of several weeks duration. Born March 8, 1859 in Appanoose county, Iowa, he came to Cedar Rapids 63 years ago and had resided here since that time. In Sept. 1880, he was married to Julia Schminkey, who preceded him in death nine years ago. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Jennie Burkart, and one son Roy Gillis, both of Cedar Rapids; 7 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held in the Turner chapel at 2 p.m. Tuesday conducted by the Rev. T.J. Hinkin. Burial will be made in Linwood cemetery. Friends may call at the chapel.
