Jennie Burkart, 91, of 1236 27th st., NE and a lifelong resident of Cedar Rapids, passed away at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 4. She was born the daughter of Solomon and Julie Schminkey Gillis on Oct. 9, 1881 at Cedar Rapids. On April 27, 1900 at Cedar Rapids she was married to Albert J. Burkart who passed away Dec. 11, 1960 in Bradenton, Fla.
Surviving are two sons, Allen Burkart of Spokane, Wash. and Charles Burkart of Cedar Rapids; one daughter, Mrs. David Hirschorn of Scarsdale, N.Y.; seven grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Jesse; and a brother, Roy Gillis.
Services were held Saturday, April 7 at 10:30 a.m. at the Murdoch chapel in Marion, conducted by the Rev. Don R. Martin. Interment was in Oak Shade cemetery.
