Carl M. Cunningham, 81, of 408 Eleventh St., Marion passed away Wednesday afternoon, following an extended illness. He was born Nov. 19, 1885 in Connelsville, Penn. and moved to Marion with his parents as a young man. In 1919 he was ordained in the Free Methodist church and entered the active ministry with his wife, the former LaVera[sic] McGowan, who survives him. In addition to serving pastorates in Eastern Iowa, he was also superintendent of the Iowa conference before his retirement.
Surviving are his wife; three daughters, Mrs. Everett (Elsie May) Wright of Freeport, Ill., Mrs. William (Byrdena) Hepker of Oak Park, Ill. and Mrs. Perry (Esther) Woodward of Glen Ellyn, ILl.; eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Joseph Chapman of Waterloo.
Services were 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 7, 1967 at the Cedar Rapids Free Methodist church with the Rev. Howard Harris officiating, assisted by the Rev. Clarence Oscarson and the Rev. Ronald Meirs. Interment was in Oak Shade cemetery. Friends may if they wish contribute to the Free Methodist Foreign Missions.
