LaVerna L. Cunningham, 79, formerly of 408 11th st., and a lifelong resident of Marion, passed away at 9 a.m. Monday, April 12 in a Woodstock, Ill. hospital. She was born the daughter of William and Susie Groves McGowan Feb. 21, 1892 at Marion. Her husband, the late Carl M. Cunnigham, passed away Jan. 4, 1967 at Marion. He had served as minister of the Free Methodist church in several Easter Iowa pastorates, and had served as superintendent of the Iowa conference. Mrs. Cunningham had been active in church youth work, had organized and been active in the Woman's Missionary Society, and had been a delegate to a World Conference of the Woman's Missionary Society.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Everett (Elsie May) Wright of Freeport, Ill., Mrs. William (Byrdena) Hepker, Skokie, Ill., and Mrs. Perry (Esther) Woodward of Glen Elyn, Ill.; eight grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters.
Services were 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 14 at the Cedar Rapids Free Methodist church, conducted by Rev. Howard Harris and Rev. Clarence Oscarson, Sr. Interment was in Oak Shade cemetery at Marion. Murdochs of Marion had charge of arrangements.
