25-Year Resident, Walter Nieland Dies
Walter W. Nieland, 66, of 1863 Sixth avenue, died Saturday at an Iowa City hospital. He had lived here 25 years.
He was born Sept. 18, 1900, at Luzerne. Mr. Nieland was married to Margaret M. Sturtevant at Sioux City Dec. 10, 1922. He came to Marion from Marengo in 1942. He was a carpenter until retiring in 1962.
Survivors are his wife, three sons, Arthur of Marion, CS2 Leo with the navy at Gurnee, Ill., and S-Sgt. John of Ft. Sill, Okla.; four daughters, Mrs. Jerome Kraus of Cedar Rapids, Mrs. Dean Beckley, Mrs. Waldo Morris and Mrs. Lyle Carpenter, all of Marion; 23 grandchildren; one great-grandchild, two brothers, Lawrence of Blairstown and Lester of Marengo and three sisters, Ruth Kruger and Mrs. Ed Roth of Blairstown and Alva Streliner of Tama.
Services: Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Murdoch chapel by the Rev. Lloyd C. Kellams. Burial: Oak Shade. Friends may call at the chapel.
