Margaret M. Nieland, 75, of 1863 Sixth Ave., a resident of Marion since 1942, and formerly of Marengo, died June 1 in a Cedar Rapids hospital. She was born the daughter of Jesse B. and Carlotta H. Graves Sturtevant on Feb. 23, 1904. On Dec. 10, 1922 at Sioux City, she was married to Walter W. Nieland who died Jan. 14, 1967. Mrs. Nieland was a member of the Marion Post No. 198, American Legion Auxiliary.
Surviving are a son, Major John B. Nieland, of the U.S. Army, White Sands, N.M.; three daughters, Mrs. Dean (Mary) Beckley, and Mrs. Waldo (Charlotte) Morris, both of Marion a,d Mrs. Lyle (Anna Marie) Carpenter of New Hampton; 26 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; three brothers, Lyle Sturtevant of Sioux City, George Sturtevant of Dennis and Charles Grip of California; one sister, Charlotte Collins of Oklahoma City, Okla. She was preceded in death by two sons, Leo L. and Arthur L. Nieland; one daughter, Dorothy Kraus; two grandchildren; and three brothers, Ralph, Arthur and Jay Sturtevant.
Services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 4 at the Murdoch chapel in Marion, conducted by the Rev. Keith Birth. Interment was in Oak Shade cemetery. A memorial fund has been established.
