The Marion Sentinel Thursday June 6, 1974
Melvin R. Kinkead, 61, of 1209 9th st., and a lifelong resident of Marion, died May 26 at a Guttenberg hospital.
He was born the son of Amos and Bernice Beiber Kinkead on April 2, 1913 at Marion. On Oct. 6, 1935 at West Prairie, he was married to Ruth Klemm. Mr. Kinkead was employed by the Quaker Oats Co. for 33 years. He was a member of the Quaker Old-Timers Club, and the Retail Wholesale and Department Store Union #110.
Surviving are his wife, a daughter, Mrs Robert (Jennie) Dye of Marion; two sons, Melvin R. (Dick) Kinkead of San Diego, Calif. and Scott Kinkead at home; three grandchildren; a brother, Marion Kinkead of Marion; and six sisters, Mrs. Mable Ash of Marion, Mrs. Billy (Mildred) Waite of Marion, Mrs. Ray (Molly) Percy of Waterloo, Mrs. Betty Beck of Cedar Rapids, Mrs. Rudy (Lula B.) Talyat of Cedar Rapids and Mrs. Robert (Pauline) Rick of Marion.
Services were held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 28 at the Murdoch chapel in Marion, conducted by the Rev. Glen Lamb. Interment was in Oak Shade Cemetery. Friends may if they wish contribute to the Heart Fund as a memorial.
