Rites Saturday for Arthur Nieland, 44
Arthur L. Nieland, 44, fo 1863 Sixth avenue, died Wednesday evening at Ardmore, Okla., while enroute home from Mexico. He was born Dec. 8, 1924, near Blairstown. Mr. Nieland moved to Marion in 1942.
He served with the U.S. navy during World war II and with the U.S. army during the Korean conflict. He was married to Emilia Garcia Guerrero on April 25, 1968, at Marion. Mr. Nieland was a foreman with a heavy construction company until an injury forced his retirement. He was a member of the American Legion and the Disabled American Veterans.
Surviving are his wife; a son, Walter; his mother, Mrs. Walter Nieland of Marion; two brothers, Leo Nieland of Gurnee, Ill., and Captain John Nieland with the U.S. army in Vietnam and four sisters, Mrs. Jerone Kraus of Cedar Rapids and Mrs. Dean Beckley, Mrs. Waldo Morris and Mrs. Lyle Carpenter of Marion.
Services: Saturday at 3 p.m. at the Murdoch chapel in Marion conducted by Rev. Lloyd C. Kellams with burial in Oak Shade cemetery. Friends may call at the chapel.
