DEATH OF JOHN B. BROWN
------------------------
The last taps have sounded from John B. Brown of Marion, a veteran of the Civil war and for many years a resident of this city. He died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Mel Case, at LeMoore, California, where he went last November for an extended visit.
Word came of his illness the first of last week and his son John at once left for LeMoore. His father died Saturday morning, April 10th, at the age of 81 years.
John B. Brown was born at Greenfield, Ohio, September 24, 1839. He came to Iowa when small and resided near Springville at first. He was the first man from Springville to enlist for the Civil war , mioining Co. A. of the Sixth Iowa Infantry. He served thru-out the war and its close married Miss Rebecca Reichard. They farmed for a number of years, later moving to Marion, where he engaged in draying and hauling. His wife died about two years ago. He was a Mason, member of the G.A.R. and M.E. church, in all of which he took an active interest--was social and well informed--a man whom the whole community will long remember and sadly miss.
He is survived by six children--3 daughters and 3 sons and 3 brothers.
The body will be brought to Marion, leaving California next Tuesday, and funeral services will be held here, the time to be announced later.
