DeWitt Smith, Marion Attorney, Is Dead
DeWitt H. Smith, 70, of 890 Eighteenth street, a Marion lawyer since 1923, died Friday afternoon at his residence.
Born at Mechanicsville Aug. 16, 1899, he received a BA degree from Cornell college at Mt. Vernon in 1922 and his law degree from the University of Iowa in 1923.
He served as Marion city attorney for 21 years and was a member of the Linn County Bar Assn., Marion Masonic lodge, and El Kahir Shrine.
He married Maree E. Greer at Ames June 9, 1925.
Surviving are his wife; two daughters, Geraldine M. Morris[sic] of Rock Island, Ill., and Louise A. Blaser of Muncie, Ind.; and two sons, Richard B., of Bethel Park, Pa., and Leslie H., of Marion.
Services: Tentatively set for Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the Baxter Memorial chapel at Marion. Burial: Oak Shade cemetery. Masonic rites will be conducted during the service. The casket will not be opened after the service.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. today.
