Maree E. Smith, 76, widow of the late DeWitt Smith, a resident of Marion for the past 54 years, died in a hospital at Oakdale Thursday night, following a prolonged illness.
She was born the daughter of William and Clara Bucknell Greer at Ames on June 4, 1901.
Mrs. Smith was a graduate of Ames and was employed for a number of years as a restaurant manager in Chicago. She was married to Mr. Smith June 9, 1925 at Ames. He died May 28, 1970.
She was a member of the First United Methodist church of Marion, P.E.O., CS; and the American Legion Auxiliary.
Survivors are two sons Richard B. Smith of Bethel Park, Penn. and Leslie H. Smith of Marion; two daughters, Mrs. Gilbert (Geraldine) Norris of Rock Island, Ill. and Mrs. Frank (Louise) Blaser of Muncie, Ind., nine grandchildren and three sisters, Mrs. C.W. Shannon of Arlington, Va., Mrs. Earl Elijah of Clarence, and Mrs. Lee Fish, Colo.
Services were held at the Baxter Memorial chapel Monday at 10:30 a.m. by the Rev. Glen W. Lamb. Burial was in Oak Shade. A memorial had been established.
