Romant L. Batchelder, 91, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Alburnett, died Wednesday May 22, 1996, in Menahga, MN, while visiting a daughter. Services were Saturday, May 25 at Murdoch Funeral Home, Marion with the Rev. Robert Brown and Dr. Mearle Griffith officiating. Burial was in Oak Shade Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Frances; {the rest of the family omitted for privacy}
He was preceded in death by his two brothers, Clancy and Clark; and sister, Harriet; granddaughter, Melody Smith Butzin; and great-grandson, Alex.
Born May 14, 1905, in Martelle, to Stephen and Emma Uhr Batchelder, he married Frances Kolarik on October 16, 1934, in Cedar Rapids. He farmed for many years near Alburnett and has been an avid gardener since his retirement. He was a faithful volunteer at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids and was a 70 year member of Modern Woodmen of America.
He was a kind and loving husband, father, grandfather and friend and will be greatly missed by everyone.
A memorial fund has been established.
