FAILS TO RECOVER FROM AN OPERATION

Mrs. Melissa Jane Bowen Dies at St. Luke's Hospital

Mrs. Melissa Jane Bowen died at hosptal[sic] in Cedar Rapids Tuesday morning, following an operation, at the age of 73 years. Funeral services were held from the home, 17755[sic] Eighth avenue, at 2:30 o'clock yesterday afternoon. The services were in charge of Rev. A.B. Book of the Christian church and the burial was in Oak Shade cemetery.
Mrs. Bowen was born March 22, 1853 at Akron, O. She was married Oct. 12, 1877 to Ezekial Bowen in Ohio moving to Kentucky where she lived for two years. In 1880 they moved to southern Illinois and came to Iowa in 1905, settling on a farm six miles northeast of Marion. In December, 1919 they moved to Marion.
Besides her husband, she is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Grance Lange of Springville, Mrs. Mabel Stewart of Jordan's Grove, Misses Della and Olive at home, and one son, Robert E., who lives on the farm; one daughter and one son having preceded her in death. There are also seven grandchildren and three brothers.
Mrs. Bowen was a member of the Christian church for years.
