Mrs. Genevra Sutliff, 40 Years a Resident Here, Died Saturday
Mrs. Genevra Barnhart Sutliff, forty years a resident of Marion, died Saturday morning at 8:45 at a Cedar Rapids hospital after an illness of some weeks.
Mrs. Sutliff was born on a farm near Charles City on May 24, 1873, the daughter of Henry A. and Martha Hoover Barnhart, and was married in Cedar Rapids August 27, 1902, to Charles Walter Sutliff, who preceded her in death on January 31, 1930. She is survived by their one son, Carleton B. Sutliff, of East Orange, N.J., and by one sister, Mrs. L.H. Griffin, of Cedar Rapids. Five sisters and one brother preceded her in death.
The deceased resided in Cedar Rapids before her marriage, coming to Marion immediately thereafter, and resided at 840 Tenth street. She was a member of the Marion Methodist church, of the Loyal division of the W.S.C.S., of the Ashley chapter D.A.R., and was a charter member both of the Electa Circle of Kings Daughters and the Dinna Fret club.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at two o'clock from the Yocom chapel, in charge of Dr. Arthur W. Henke, pastor of the Methodist church. Burial was in Oak Shade cemetery. Bearers were Willis Jordan, O.W. McBride, L.G. Hewitt and Clarence Oxley.
