Hold Funeral Services for John [Evans}

Funeral services were held last Sunday afternoon at the Methodist Episcopal church for John Evans, 68, of Ottumwa who died last Friday at Rochester Minn., following a serious operation. The services were conducted at the grave by the local Masonic order with the Rev. R.E. Beetham, pastor of the M.E. church at Ottumwa, and the Rev. Dr. Keeler, local Methodist church pastor, officating[sic] at the church. A special train from Ottumwa brought about 75 friends and co-workers here for the funeral.
Mr. Evans was born in Port Robert, Wales, Nov. 2, 1863[sic],coming to the United States with his father when still very young and settling in Evansville, Penn. After spending several years in Pennsylvania the Evans family moved west to Iowa and settled an[sic] a farm near Center Point where John Evans stayed until he was 18 years old and then he came to Marion and began to work for the Milwaukee railroad.
He was transferred to Chillicothe, Missouri, and was married in 1896 to Margaret Brown of Marion. They started housekeeping in Missouri and lived there for 25 years after which they moved to Ottumwa where Mr. Evans has held a position as chief carpenter with the Milwaukee railway. Mrs. Evans died two years ago.
Those surviving are: Two sons, John R. Evans of Amarillo, Texas; Hugh B. Evans of Tulsa, Oklahoma; a daughter, Miss Margaret Evans, Ottumwa, and many relatives.
The pallbearers for the funeral were F.M. Barnoske, J.W. Sowder, W.H. Vosberg, R.R. Lowe, L. Kochley and M. Reynolds.
