Ellen Wixson, daughter of Ira and Mary Wixson, was born at Worth, Michigan on June 3, 1850and died at Marion April 15, 1927 at the age of 76 years, 10 months and 12 days. She was the third in a family of six children.
Fifty-seven years ago last March she was united in marriage to Henry Locke at Worth, Michigan and to this union was born five girls, one of whom died in infancy. The four daughters who survive are Mrs. Lura Fowler of Marion, Mrs. F.G. Schultz of Marion, Mrs. H.F. Falkenstein of Cedar Rapids, and Mrs. Earl Grant of Savanna, Illinois.
The deceased embraced the Christian faith at the early age of twelve years and up to the time of her death had been a member of the United Brethren church for 40 years.
Mr. and Mrs. Locke moved to Marion 36 years ago and have resided here continuously ever since.
Besides the four daughters there remain to mourn her loss six grandchildren and two great grandchildren. The grandchildren are as follows: Roland Fowler, Dorothy and Richard Schultz of Marion; Vanieta Fulkenstein, Cedar Rapids, Donald and Jack Grant of Savanna, Ill. The two great grandchildren are Betty Mae and Bonnie Jeanne Fowler of Marion.
Mrs. Locke was preceded in death by her husband who passed away September 23, 1926. The deceased had been in failing health for the past year but was confined to her bed for only about a week.
Funeral services were held on Sunday afternoon at 2:30 at the home. Solos were sung by Mrs. Birmingham of Cedar Rapids in charge of W.J. Robinson.
