Joseph Taylor Dies at Age 100
Joseph W. Taylor, 100, a retired farmer, died at 4 a.m. Wednesday in a Marion nursing home. His home formerly was at 665 Fifteenth street in Marion.
A familiar figure on Marion streets for many years, Mr. Taylor had been unable to leave his home for the last two years. Until he was struck by a car a few years ago, he could boast he had never been in a hospital.
In a newspaper interview in 1948, Mr. Taylor said, "Maybe the fact that I've had no use for tobacco, beer, whisky or coffee accounts for my long life."
Born in Noble county, Ohio, Dec. 7, 1848, he came to Iowa when a young man and settled near Atlantic. He was married to Henrietta Underwood at Eddyville and prior to her death about five years ago they had celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary.
After Mr. Taylor retired from farming, he and Mrs. Taylor moved to a small acreage near Springville. Several years before Mrs. Taylor's death they moved to Marion.
The body was taken to the Yocom chapel. Funeral arrangements will be announced later.
