William Kemp Services Tuesday
William Kemp, 87, 337 Eleventh street, a retired railway bridge carpenter, died at 5:48 p.m. Saturday at a Cedar Rapids hospital.
Mr. Kemp was born in Scotland, the eldest and last surviving of ten children born to William and Margaret Lawrence Kemp. He came to the United States when he was 16 years old and lived with relatives in Illinois before coming to Iowa. He moved to Marion from Anamosa April 15, 1910 and was married here on April 16, 1923 to Cassie Lint. A 35 year veteran with the railroad, he was a bridge foreman for twenty years before his retirement in 1936.
He was a member of the Unit 29, Retired and Veteran Railway Employes and of Lodge No. 7, Brotherhood of Maintenance and Ways Employes. He had held offices in both organizations. In the brotherhood he had held every office and for many years was the secretary and treasurer.
In addition to his wife he is survived by a grandson, Jesse Ozias and a great grandson, Douglas Kent Ozias, both of Marion.
Funeral services were conducted at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Yocom-Murdoch Chapsl by the Rev. Richard Goins and burial was in Oak Shade cemetery.
