Charles E. Barkwill, 84, of 1310 8th St., and a resident of Marion for 70 years, died March 14 in a Cedar Rapids hospital. He was born the son of W.O. and Alice Lacy Barkwill on Feb. 23, 1896 at Goodman, S.D. On Jan. 13, 1916 he was married to Iva P. Massingale at Marion. Mrs. Barkwill was a carpenter and employed at Wilson and Company until his retirement in 1965. He was a member of the National Rifle Association.
Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Mrs. John (Darlene) Hepfer of Salome, Ariz.; four grandchildren, and one great granddaughter. He was preceded in death by a son, Charles W. Barkwill, a daughter, Alice Rivera, nine brothers and three sisters.
Services were at 11 a.m. March 18 at the Murdoch chapel in Marion, conducted by the Rev. Tom Anthony, pastor of the Marion Christian church. A memorial fund has been established.
