He was born at Amboy, Ill., March 24, 1862, the son of Foster Lewis and Amarilla Melisha Smith Taylor, and came with them to Marion when two years of age, and because of his excellent memory, knew about as much of Marion in early days as any man in town. Besides there are three grandchildren, Charles Taylor of Fort Bliss, and Don and Margaret Herron of Marquette. A son, John Taylor, died in Dubuque in 1922.
Mr. Taylor was a veteran member of Marion Masonic lodge No. 6, and was due to receive a 50-year membership honorary award in about a week.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock from the Hall Home for Funerals, with the Rev. Vernon Carter, of the Christian church, in charge of the services. Mrs. LaVerna Crew was organist. The acting pallbearers were F.C. Newlin, Edward Bills, John Oliver, Harley Breed, Lee Voorhies and Ware Lake.
