Pvt. Edwin A. Plota, jr., 19, a paratrooper, was killed in action in Holland Sept. 22, according to notice from the war department received by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edwin A. Plotz, 1403 Mt. Vernon avenue SE.
A former Boy Scout and Gazette carrier, Pvt. Plotz attended McKinley high school, later being employed by the Quaker Oats company. After entering service Nov. 18, 1943, he took basic training at Camp Roberts, Calif., completing paratroop training at Fort Benning, Ga., June 18, 1944. He went overseas early in August of this year, first to England and later to France.
Surviving, besides his parents, are two brothers, Bill and Jim, at home; four grandparents and several aunts, uncles and cousins, all of the Cedar Rapids vicinity.
He was a member of the First Baptist church. Plans for memorial services will be announced later.
