Mrs. Baker Died Early on Monday
Mrs. J. Earle Baker, 1503 10th st., Marion, passed away at 8:35 a.m., Monday, January 4, at a Cedar Rapids hospital following a long illness.
Born, Retta L. Widger, daughter of Robert N. and Lucinda Davis Widger, on May 8, 1890, at Manila, Iowa, she moved to Marion with her parents when she was two years old. Educated in the Marion schools she was married June 17, 1908 at Cedar Rapids to Mr. Baker.
They lived in Cedar Rapids, Alburnett and Marion communities. She was a member of the Knox Presbyterian church in Cedar Rapids, and of Grove City Rebekah Lodge No. 35.
Surviving in addition to her husband are a daughter: Mrs. Howard (Lorna) Hanson, Anamosa; seven grandchildren: Mrs. Valeta Bray, Ronald, Betty K., Howard, jr., and David Hanson, Anamosa and Mrs. Joyce Owens and Ronald Hanson of Palo; four great grandchildren and a sister, Verda Widger, Marion. Two brothers: Walter and Clarence, preceeded her in death.
Memorial services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday at the Murdoch Chapel, Marion by the Rev. J.P. Hauter, pastor of the First Presbyterian church of Marion and Grove City Rebekah Lodge No. 35. Interment will be in Oak Shade cemetery.
