Sarah J. Blackford, 83, of 970 8th St., and a resident of Marion for the past 62 years, died April 27 in a Cedar Rapids hospital following a short illness. She was born the daughter of William and Mittie Thompson Jeffreis on May 3, 1895 in Cedar Rapids. On April 10, 1917 at Vinton she was married to Forrest Blackford, who died April 9, 1976. Mrs. Blackford was a member of the First United Methodist church of Marion, was Past President of the WSCS and a member of the Handicraft club.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Norman (Beulah) Crouse and a son, Richard E. Blackford of Marion; five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.
Services were held at 1:30 p.m. April 30 at the Murdoch Chapel in Marion, conducted by the Rev. Glen W. Lamb. Interment was in Oak Shade cemetery. A memorial fund has been established.
