Hubert H. Blackford, 94, a retired farmer, of Rural Route 3, Marion; and a lifelong resident of Linn county, died at 10:50 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 14 in a Cedar Rapids hospital, following a brief illness. The son of John H. and Estella Byerly Blackford, he was born Feb. 6, 1887, at Spirit Lake. On Sept. 7, 1921 he was married to Edith Dukek. Mr. Blackford was a former Director of the Farmers State Bank, a former Director of the Farmers Elevator Company of Alburnett and a member of the Linn County Farm Bureau.
Surviving are his wife; a son, Ralph Blackford of Marion; 2 daughters, Mrs. John (Betty) Blackford and Mrs. Harold (Vivian) Peterson, both of Marion; seven grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren; and one great great grandson; one brother, Harry Blackford of Marion; and a sister, Jessie Coonrod of Mount Vernon. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Thelma Boegel[sic]; two brothers, Forrest and Clayton Blackford; and two sisters, Effie Olinger and Winnie Blackford.
Services were held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 18 at the Murdoch Chapel in Marion, conducted by the Rev. John Lippincott of the Prairie Chapel Methodist Church. Interment was in Oak Shade Cemetery. A Memorial Fund has been established.
