John Ellis, Native of England, Dead
John Ellis died at 11:45 Monday at his home, 1962 Fifth avenue, following two weeks illness.
He was born at Fishtoff, England, March 19, 1874, the son of Henry and Anna Ellis. The family came to America when he was two years of age, and he came to Marion about 12 years ago after living for a number of years at Ft. Dodge. He was a plumber by occupation. He was twice married. His first wife, Anna Wood, died about 30 years ago. He was married again at Ft. Dodge to Dora Shirley, who survives together with five children, Harry Ellis of Chicago, John Ellis jr., of Marion, Laura Shirley and Wendell of Waterloo and Elvin J. Shirley of Marion. He is also survived by six grandchildren and five sisters, Mrs. Jennie Murray of Dubuque, Mrs. Fannie Davis of Marion, Mrs. Lizzie Cody and Mrs. Hattie French of Cody, Montana, and Polly in England. Funeral services are being held this Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Yocom chapel with Rev. L.W. Inman, of the Baptist church in charge. Burial will be in Oak Shade cemetery.
