Thursday December 8, 1966 The Marion Sentinel:
Charlotte M. Benedict, 88, of 654 12th st., and a resident of Marion for 84 years passed away at 12:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2 at her home. She was born the daughter of Nicholas and Alma Holstenson Hanson on Dec. 21, 1877 in Sweden. Mrs. Benedict came to Marion from Sweden when she was four years old. On Nov. 10, 1898 at Manchester, Ia. she was married to Charles D. Benedict, who passed away on April 26, 1944 at Marion. Mrs. Benedict was a member of the First Presbyterian church of Marion and Robert Mitchell Post No. 126, Womans Relief Corps.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Phyllis Houser of Marion; a son A. LeRoy Benedict of Marion; four grandchildren, Roy M. Houser, Jr. of Marion, Mrs. Raymond (Patricia) Gallagher of Bellevue, Thomas C. Benedict of West Des Moines and James L. Benedict of Cedar Rapids; 19 great-grandchildren; five sisters, Mrs. Fred (Alva) Putnam of Spokane, Wash., Mrs. Edith Gordon of Marion, Mrs. Bert (Clara) Maynes and Mrs. Emma Johnson of Hollywood, Calif., and Mrs. Lester (Hazel) Collins of Glendale, Calif; and a brother, Halgie L. Hanson of Napa, Calif. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Margaret Carsner and Minnie Fahl and two brothers, Arthur and John Hanson.
Services were 1:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 5 at the Murdoch Chapel in Marion, conducted by Rev. Jean P. Hauter. Richard Fahl of Boulder Dam, Colo, offered a prayer. Interment was in Oak Shade Cemetery.
