John G. Standish Died Late Sunday, Long a Railroad Man Here
John Gallagher Standish died at his home, 943 Eighteenth street, Marion, Sunday at 5:30 p.m.
Mr. Standish was born October 13, 1872, at Dixon, Iowa, the son of Samuel W. and Mary Wright Standish, and was married Mary 1, 1901, at Oxford Junction, to Sarah Grubeck, who survives, together with their four children, Fred W. Standish, Lanark, Ill., Mrs. Bernita Mae Hyde, Leavenworth, Kans.; Mrs. June Marie Urush, Chicago, and Mrs. Florence Joan Botruff, Harvey, Ill. There are also the following grandchildren: Mariene Carolyn Standish and Norman W. Standish; Ronald S. and Thomas S. Hyde; Sydney Joan Shuman and Susan Rae Botruff. Also surviving are three sisters: Mrs. Sadie S. Fory and Mrs. Kate S. Parks, of Dixon, Iowa; and Mrs. Esther S. Flick, of Davenport.
The family came to Marion 36 years ago from Oxford Junction. Mr. Standish was a railroad conductor, and retired in 1936 after 45 years of services with the Milwaukee road.
Mr. Standish was a member of Marion lodge, No. 6, A.F. & A.M., of F.T. Fox lodge, No. 319, B. of R.T., and held membership in the A.O.U.W., at Davenport, and the Knights of Pythias at Oxford Junction.
Funeral services were conducted from the Yocom chapel Wednesday at four p.m., with the Rev. A.W. Henke, Methodist minister, in charge. Bearers were C.H. Dearborn, William Dearborn, Harry Dearborn, and Edward Ehlers. There were Masonic services at the grave in Cedar Memorial park.
