There was deep sorrow in Marion when it was learned Monday that Hal Carpenter had passed away at the Independence hospital. The body was brought here and the funeral will be held this afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the Pingrey chapel, in charge of the Odd Fellows, with Jerry Green of Davenport conducting the services. The interment will be in the Shiloh cemetery.
Mr. Carpenter was a pioneer rural mail carrier out of Marion and a year ago was placed on the pension list. About a year and a half ago he was taken to the hospital at Independence for treatment. He was 58 years of age and is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Fred Barkwell, who lives on the old farm home near Robins.
