Funeral services were held last Saturday afternoon for W.H. Quaas, 72, who died last Friday at his home in Marion. Services were conducted at the Yocom chapel with the Rev. J. Notley, pastor of the Evangelical church at Buffalo, and the Rev. L.E. Croppen of Van Horne, officiating. Interment was in Shiloh cemetery. Mr. Quaas was a lifelong resident of Linn county, being born in Rapids township in 1858. He was a member of a pioneer family, his parents coming from Saxony, Germany. He was married to Caroline Van Note, Feb. 8, 1881, and the couple started housekeeping on a farm near Buffalo. They lived in Marion since 1918 moving here from the Henry Good farm. Surviving are five children, Mrs. Opal Sloan, Mrs. Selma Hagerman, Orville Quaas, Mrs. Hattie Knapp and Mrs. Youtzy. A son Walter died at the age of three.
