From the Thurs. Feb. 5, 1948 Marion Sentinel:
Caroline Marie Quaas, 83, died at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 29, at her home, 904 Tenth street, after a long illness.
Mrs. Quaas was born July 27, 1864, on a farm one mile north of Mt. Vernon. She was the youngest of 10 children born to Brazilla and Maria Wolfe VanNote. She was married to W.H. Quaas at Marion, Feb. 8, 1881. The couple moved to Marion from a farm five miles north of Cedar Rapids in 1918. Mr. Quaas died October 17, 1930 at Marion.
She was a member of the Buffalo Evangelical church for more than seventy years. In Marion she attended the Presbyterian church and was a member of the Pastors Helpers class.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Yocom chapel with the Rev. C.V.R. DeJong officiating. Miles Sutera and Burton Emmons sang. Pallbearers were Earl Youtzy, George Youtzy, William Quaas, Lee Sloan, Allan Sloan and Robert Hagerman. Burial was in Shiloh cemetery.
Survivors include five children, Mrs. Selma Hagerman, Mrs. Opal Sloan, and Orval Quaas of Marion, Mrs. Stella Youtzy, Cedar Rapids and Mrs. Hattie Knapp; 22 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. A son, Walter, died in infancy. All of her brothers and sisters also preceded her in death.
