OBITUARY OF F.M. GOLDSBERRY
Francis Marion Goldsberry was born in Frankfort, Ind., July 7, 1850, and died at his home, three and a half miles northeast of Marion, February 1. He was the second son of Alvin and Nancy Goldsberry, pioneers, who came to Iowa in 1854. He had three brothers, William Goldsberry, now living in Central City; George Goldsberry, Kansas City, Mo.; and Siegel Goldsberry, deceased; and one sister, Mrs. L.L. Ives, of Marion.
He was married March 1, 1875, to Margaret Reichard, who died in November, 1892. He was married again on May 17, 1894, to Alice Bock, who survives him. He was the father of eleven children, all of whom are living except one son, Donald, who died in infancy. They are: Mrs. E.F. Carnahan, of Springville; Alvin Arch Goldsberry, Auburn, Cal.; Frank M. Goldsberry, Aurora, S.D.; Mrs. Harry Milner, Alpena, S.D.; Mrs. Ralph Dunn, Mitchell, S.D.; Mrs. Alva Hyde, Marion; Herbert Goldsberry, Camp Cody, New Mexico; Ciegel [sic] Goldsberry, who with Louise and Ruth Goldsberry, the youngest sisters, and the mother, are living on the home farm.
As a man Mr. Goldsberry was invariably fair and kindly in his judgment, honorable in his dealings, genial and wholesome in his family and social relations, a devoted husband and indulgent father, and wherever placed radiated a happy, gracious influence.
On the farm where he died, he founded his home forty-one years ago; and its happiness has been his continuous and engrossing concern and care while its protection and love have been his chief comfort and joy. His home was always first in his every thought and act.
