James C Sherbon, 78, a lifelong resident of Linn county and for the past 60 years a resident of the Walker community passed away Friday evening at a Marion nursing home. He was born the son of James C. and Mary P. Zachary Sherbon on July 7, 1890, at Marion. On April 2, 1913, he was married to Margaret E Wintringer, at Walker. Mrs Sherbon passed away July 30, 1948, at Walker. He was married to Amelia Moos Sept 2, 1950 at Walker. Mr. Sherbon was a truck farmer until he retired in 1960, he was a substitute mail carrier, also for 30 years and did government corn sealing for several years.
Surviving are his wife; three sons, Francis J., Joseph A., and James F. Sherbon, all of Walker; five daughters, Mrs. Kenneth W. (Mary) LeHew and Mrs. Wayne (Florence) Roberts, both of Marion, Mrs Leo (Loretta) Mell of Norway, Mrs Don (Agnes) Stone of Brooklyn and Betty Sherbon of Maquoketa; 37 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, William, five grandchildren, three brothers and four sisters.
A funeral High Mass was offered at 9 a.m. Monday, Aug. 26 at the Sacred Heart Catholic church in Walker, by the Rev. Robert V. Swift. The Office of the Dead was said at 8 pm Sunday at the Murdoch chapel in Walker. Burial was in Oak Shade cemetery in Marion.
