Betty Jane Sherbon, 78, of Walker, died Sunday, June 8, 2008, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, following a short illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Walker, by the Rev. David Ambrossey. The family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Walker, where the rosary will begin at 4:30 p.m. Burial: Oak Shade Cemetery, Marion

She was preceded in death by her parents; six brothers and sisters; and 13 stepbrothers and stepsisters.
Betty was born Dec. 26, 1929, the daughter of James and Margaret (Wintringer) Sherbon, near Walker, Iowa. She attended Mount Mercy College and received her master's degree from the University of Northern Iowa in education. Betty taught school at Troy Mills and West Branch and retired from the Maquoketa schools. She was a member of the Iowa State Education Association, Catholic Daughters and a lifetime member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where she enjoyed leading the rosary. Betty enjoyed cooking, reading and crocheting. She also liked helping her brother....
