Mr. Aleck F. Johnson was boron in Vexie, Smoland county, Sweden, April 23, 1850. When thirty-two years of age he came to seek his fortune in America. He landed at Sabula, Iowa, where he soon found a position on the C.M. & St. P. railroad. On October 3, 1893, he was united in marriage to Miss Ida Samuelson at Burlington, Iowa. Five children were born to them, Emma, Hannah, Carl, Victor and Harry, all of whom tobether [sic] with his wife survive him. The oldest in 16 and the youngest between two and three years of age. For the past twenty-five years he has been section foreman of the railroad where his services were much appreciated by the company. He was at his post of duty when he was suddenly stricken with heart failure and dropped dead on Saturday evening, Aug. 28. He had always been a hard worker and by his thrift and economy had succeeded in building a neat cottage at the corner of Third avenue and Twenty-seventh street some fourteen years ago where they have since lived. He also carried $1,000 life insurance, thus making provision for his family in case of need. He was 59 years, 4 months and 5 days old at the time of his death. The funeral was held at his late residence on Monday afternoon. The services were conducted by Rev. James Aikin Smith of the Presbyterian church. He spoke from the text "A father of the fatherless and a judge of the widow is God in His holy habitation," Ps. 68.5. The choir of the Presbyterian church sang three appropriate selections. The burial took place in Marion cemetery.
