Bert Homer Mercer was born in Ohio, Summit county, July 14, 1850. Died June 29, 1914. He came to Iowa with his parents when a small boy and located in Belle Plaine, Benton county, in which place he resided until he was 29 years of age, at which time he was united in marriage to Lizzie DIckover on September 3, 1872, at Freeport, Illinois. To this union two children were born, Mrs. Emma Smith of Sigourney, Iowa, and William who preceded him in death September 18, 1909. Besides these he leaves to mourn his death, one brother, Henry, who resides in Chelsea, Iowa.
