Death of S. Hammond
Stephen Hammond died at his home on South Sixteenth street Monday after an illness lasting several months. He has been ill with tuberculosis for some time and a few days ago pneumonia set in and hastened the end. Mr. Hammond was almost 70 years old and was an old soldier, being a member of the Twenty-first Iowa regiment. He came to Marion from Oxford Junction about three years ago, and during his residence here he made many friends. He is survived by his wife and six children, Roy Hammond of Marion, Mrs. Olive Burlingame, Linnell, Minn., Mrs. Myrtle Cox of Merna Altn. Canada, Mrs. Maude Coon of Oxford Mills, Dolly Hammond of Cedar Rapids, and Mrs. Jennie Mallett, Toledo, Ohio.
The funeral will be held a tthe [sic] residence Thursday at 2 o'clock and will be in charge of the G.A.R. post.
