Mrs. W.C. Thompson, Pioneer of Linn County, Dies At 87
Mrs. Christianna Thompson, 87, pioneer resident of Linn county, died Saturday at midnight after having been in failing health for several months.
As Christianna Keller she was born in Ross county, Ohio, Dec. 7, 1845, and with her parents came to Iowa at the age of 7, settling on a farm five miles west of Marion. Since then Linn county had been her home. She was married to the Rev. W.C. Thompson on April 24, 1864. To them eleven children were born, of whom only her twin sons, George and Charles, age 63, survive. Mr. Thompson was one of the organizers of the local Free Methodist church and at the time of his death on April 20, 1914, was the oldest elder of this conference. Since his death, Mrs. Thompson had made her home with her son, George, in West Eighth avenue.
Mrs. Thompson was a life-long member of the Free Methodist church. In spite of her advanced years, her mind was unusually active and she was able to keep house. She is survived by her twin sons, of Marion, eighteen grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren, ten great-great-grandchildren, and one sister-in-law, Mrs. Ada Hepker, of Palo.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. at the Yocom chapel. The Rev. Mark Shockey, pastor of the Free Methodist church, will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Shade cemetery.
