Tuesday November 28, 1911 Cedar Rapids Evening Gazette
Silas Stouer Landis, son of Henry Landis, was born in Chambersburg, Pa., in 1852. He came to Linn county, Iowa, at the age of three years, living the greater part of his life in Marion until the call of death came Saturday morning about 4 o'clock, Nov. 25, 1911. He was the oldest child of a family of seven--Olivia, Jerry, Bruce, Laura, George and Meek. The three last named are living and mourn with the family the death of the brother and father--Mrs. Laura Linsted of Birmingham, Ala., George of Fresno, Cal., and Meek of Spokane, Wash.
In 1873 he was married to Louise Strauss in Tama county, Iowa. To this union were given six children--George of Los Angeles, Cal.; Grace and Clara (Mrs. Van Tassel) of Marion; Mary of Post Falls, Idaho; Charles and Laura of Marion. The children were all present today, except Mary and George. A host of friends join the family in sincere sympathy.
The funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon from the home on Eighth street at 2:30 p.m. The Rev. Charles Franklin Ensign, pastor of the Presbyterian church, conducted the service, speaking from the theme "How to Bear Sorrow." A male quartet sand three selections as follows: "Remember Me, O Mighty One," "Nearer to Thee" and "In That Beautiful Land." The members of the quartet were Messrs. Norman Ives, J.M. Thompson, W.B. Sebern and C.F. Ensign. The flowers were beautiful in their quiet expressions of sympathy and love.
