Jacob Bieber, 86, pioneer resident of Marion, died at 12:45 a.m. Monday at his home at 1209 Ninth Street, where he lived for fifty-five years. His death followed a long illness and he had been confined to his bed since May. Son of Benjamin and Lavina Bieber, he was born April 6, 1850, in Pennsylvania, coming to Linn county in his youth. He was a member of the German Reformed church.

Mr. Bieber was married in Marion, May 12, 1880, to Miss Carrie May Humphrey. They were the parents of three sons and three daughters, J. Alva Bieber of Marion, Claude Bieber of Newton, Wesley Bieber of Cedar Rapids, Mrs. Joe Straka of Central City, Mrs. Amos Kinkead of Marion and Mrs. Mabel Wightman of Cedar Rapids. Besides his children, he is survived by his widow, one brother, Amos Bieber, seventeen grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2:30 p.m. in the Yocum chapel and burial will be in Oak Shade cemetery.
