Mrs. Kate Blazek, 79, widow of Joseph Blazek, died Tuesday at 5:15 p.m. at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Leo E. Varns, 1427 Third avenue SE, Cedar Rapids, after a long illness. Mrs. Blazek was born Nov. 12, 1860, in Tama county, the youngest, and last to survive of a family of 12 children. She was married at Elberon in 1879 to Mr. Blazek, who died in Marion March 14, 1926. Mr. and Mrs. Blazek moved to Marion 34 years ago and lived until Mr. Blazek's death on a farm just outside the city limits on the Alburnett road. She is survived by the following children: Mrs. Mayme B. Shugart of Portland, Ore., Joseph M. Blazek of Tipton, Emil J. Blazek of Glencoe, Ill., Mrs. Emily K. McClelland of Brooklyn, N.Y., Mrs. Julia M. Shugart of Ames, Mrs. Libbie A. Varns of Cedar Rapids, Mrs. Ella E. Timms of Council Bluffs and Milo D. Blazek of Marion. There are 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at the Yocom chapel in charge of the Rev. Grant E. Anderson, pastor of the First Baptist church of Cedar Rapids, and burial will be in the family lot in Oak Shade cemetery. Friends may call at the chapel.
