DEATH OF THOMAS HALPIN

Thomas Halpin, aged 65 years, died at his home on 709 Fifth Street, East, at 8:15 Saturday morning of asthma, after being confined to his bed for about five weeks. He was a well known resident of the city, having lived here very near ever since he moved to this side of the water, in 1874. Thomas Halpin was born in Drogheda, County Louth, Ireland, in 1842, where he was united in marriage with Miss Bridget BANNON. Mr. and Mrs. Halpin came to this country in 1874, locating in La Porte City, residing there and at Vinton until a few years ago when the removed to Cedar Rapids. For some years Mr. Halpin was a section foreman for the B.C.R. & N. (railroad) Five weeks ago he was taken with the illness which resulted in his death.

He is survived by his wife, four daughters, Mrs. J.L. ALLISON of La Porte City, Mrs. Roy KNOWLES of Gunnison, Col., and the Misses Margaret and Katherine, both at home, and five sons, L.F., James, and John of this city, Matthew of Hastings, Minn., and Charles of Council Bluffs, all of whom are telegraph operators and holding excellent situations.

The funeral is to take place Monday morning at 9 o'clock at the church of the Immaculate Conception after which the body will be buried in the Kenwood Cemetery.

Note - Thomas's daughter Katherine later married John VON ENGELN.
