The Funeral of Mrs. Elizabeth Lilly to be held from the Church of Immaculate Conception this Morning
----The funeral of Mrs. Elizabeth Lilly, whose death occurred at 2 o'clock Tuesday morning, will be held from the church of Immaculate Conception this morning at 9 o'clock. The services will be conducted by Rev. Father Gunn and the interment will be in the cemetery at Kenwood.
The deceased was born in Baltimore, Maryland, in 1821 and came to Cedar Rapids in 1855, having resided here ever since. Her husband died more than a quarter of a century ago. She was the mother of twelve children, eight of whom are still living and five of whom reside in Cedar Rapids, viz: Samuel and Charles Lilly, Mrs. Charles MOORHEAD and the Misses Louisa and Sarah Lilly. The other children are: Mrs. Ellen PIERCE of Tacoma, Wash.; James Lilly of Philadelphia, and Theodore Lilly of Chattanooga, Tenn., all of whom are well known here by the older residents of the city.
Mrs. Lilly was one of those good people whom it was purifying and ennobling to meet. She was a devout member of the church of her choice, living up to every ordnance of the church most strictly and giving all her time and devoting her energies to her church and her children. She was always kind and considerate with her neighbors and friends, and to the very last her middle-aged "boys" and "girls" would go to "mother" for advice and counsel, well knowing that what she advised would be for the best.
Among the oldest residents of the city, she was one of the best known and will be sadly missed by one and all. The esteem and respect in which she was held by all is best attested in the manner in which friends and relatives alike sought to make her last days on earth full of happiness and peace, all vieing with one another in administering to her wants and wishes. Three daughters and two sons were constantly at her bedside from the time she was stricken until she closed her eyes peaceably in death. The bereaved family will receive many comforting words in their sad bereavement from friends who knew and appreciated the value of the "mother" who has gone to her home.
Note: Elizabeth Mills Lilly was the widow of Francis "Frank" Lilly (1812-1872).
