James Walter Sloan 1542 Seventh Avenue SE, a lifelong Cedar Rapids resident, died at a Cedar Rapids hospital at 8:25 pm Wednesday following a brief illness. Born in Cedar Rapids Feb. 9, 1887, he was married here to Agnes J. Friebel on June 18, 1918.
Mr. Sloan would have completed 43 years in the field of transportation in June, but illness forced his retirement in November 1954. He was with the streetcar company for many years and was on the Linwood route for the City Bus Line at the time of his retirement.
Surviving in addition to his wife are four brothers, Albert Sloan of Cedar Rapids, Robert Sloan of Marion, Fred Sloan of Walker and George Sloan of San Francisco and a sister Mrs. Don McKee of Joplin, Mo.
Mr. Sloan was a member of First Congressional church.
Services will be conducted in the Turner chapel at 1:30 pm Saturday by the Rev. J. Richard Wagner. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery. Friends can call at the chapel
