Spencer Stephenson, 69, Lafayette, Dies

Center Point -- Spencer H. Stephenson, 69, a retired farmer and a lifelong resident of Lafayette, died at 3:20 p.m. Monday in a Cedar Rapids hospital.
He was born April 12, 1898, near Lafayette. On March 21, 1928, he was married to Clista M. Schmickle at South Haven, Minn. Mr. Stephenson was a former school board member and an Otter Creek township trustee.
Surviving are his wife: two daughters, Mrs. Loyd Martin of Marion and Elizabeth Stephenson of Brighton, Colo.; three sons, Howard of Portland, Ore., Harold of Center Point and Wayne of Fox River Grove, Ill., and 14 grandchildren.
Services: 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Lafayette Evangelical United Brethren church conducted by the Rev. Joseph Ricks. Burial: Lafayette cemetery. Friends may call at the Murdoch chapel in Center Point after 1 p.m. Wednesday.
