Samuel and Rachel (Clark) Johnson came to Montrose before 1850 from Ohio. They had three children who lived to adulthood: Adolphus, James Finley, and Adaline. Adaline married William Madison Johnesse in Montrose in 1865. They had five surviving children all of whom moved to Idaho and were very involved in public life there.

1. Frank E. Johnesse md. Mary Louise Patten of Montrose.

2. Samuel R. Johnesse md. Sarah Cook of Darlington, Indiana.

3. Grace E. Johnesse md. Louis E. Workman of Boise, Idaho.

4. Ola Johnesse md. Fred V. Tinker of Boise, Idaho.

5. Lettie Johnesse md. David W. McFadden of Custer, South Dakota.

After Adaline died, Wm. M. married 2nd Cecelia Sprague Virts Scranton Rhodenbaugh of Montrose who was part of an interesting and complex family.

I have a great deal of information on these families including descendants of Adolphus and James Finley Johnson as well. I'm always looking for others who are descended from or related to these families. Will be very glad to share information.
