Death of Joseph Depew

Joseph and his wife Wealthy were found in the 1850 Census {district 29 Lee County - wherever that is} with their surname spelled Dupere.
Some family members seem to think he died about 1851 and think the family was still in Lee County.
I would be so happy to find a death date for Joseph. If Iowa has a state wide death index that might be a good one to check if nothing is found in Lee County. Thanks much!
