Rita V. Breen, 68, 601 S. 10th St., Ft. Madison, died at 9:59 p.m. Friday, May 18, 1990 at the Ft. Madison Community Hospital.
Born Dec. 5, 1921, at Houghton, she was the daughter of Robert and Rose Benjamin Cooper. She married William G. Breen April 24, 1943, in Ft. Madison.
She owned and operated Breen Newstand for 20 years. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, the Altar and Rosary Society of the church, and was a charter member of the Sweet Adelines, of which she has been a member for 39 years.
Surviving are her husband, Fort Madison; one son, Patrick W. Breen, Fort Madison; two daughters, Mrs. Susan(Michael)Huffman, Bryant; and Mrs. Judith(Robert)Carl, Carthage, Ill.; nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Paul Cooper and David Cooper, both of Fort Madison; five sisters; Mrs. Lucille Lawlor, Mrs. Louise(Bert)Druppel, both of Fort Madison; Mrs. Magdalen Gehle, Nauvoo, Ill., Mrs. Colleen(Robert)Vliet, and Mrs. Aubreen(Jerry)Tripp, both of Cadillac, Mich.
Visitation will be after noon Monday at the King-Lynk Funeral Home where the rosary will be recited at 3 p.m. and a wake service at 7:30 p.m.
The service for Mrs. Breen will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph's, Fort Madison, with the Rev. John Hyland officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
A memorial has been established for the Iowa Heart Association.
