Death of Mary Saar

Mary E. Saar, nee Faeth, former resident of this community, died at the home of her son Lee Saar in Fort Madison Friday afternoon at the advanced age of 84 years. She was born in Germany and came to the Untied States at the age of eight years locating at Fort Madison and later near Franklin. She was married to Michael Saar and they moved to a farm southwest of Donnellson where the greater part of her life was spent. Her husband preceded her in death in 1912 and in 1923 she moved to Fort Madison. She was a charter member of the St. Paul Evangelical church in Donnellson and retained her membership here as long as she lived. She is survived by six sons: Peter, Henry, Dan, Ed, Lee and Carl; two daughters, Mrs. Lena Dietrich and Mrs. Lydia Shirck. Two sons preceded her in death. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon from the home in Fort Madison, the Rev. T.C. Berlekamp of Fort Madison officiating and from the St. Paul Evangelical church in Donnellson, the Rev. W.F. Kemphenkel officiating. Burial was in the Evangelical cemetery north of town.
