Lane Kay Newberry, 64, Nauvoo, well-known area artist, died at 8:20 p.m. Thursday in Sacred Heart hospital here. He had been ill for one day.
Mr. Newberry was born Nov. 8, 1896, at Argyle. He lived for five years in Fort Madison before moving to Chicago in 1921. He went to Nauvoo about three years ago.
On May 28, 1921, in Fort Madison, he married Helene Haden, who survives. He was a member of Nauvoo Chamber of Commerce, the Quincy Art League and was president of the Nauvoo Historical Society.
Beside his wife, he is survived by two sons, Charles H. Newberry, Hinsdale, Ill., and Brother James Newberry, C. S. C. of Notre Dame, Ind.; and one sister, Mrs. Thomas Evans, Sr., Fort Madison. Three grandchildren also survive.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Glenn; Wilford and Ralph, and by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Newberry.
The body is at Clements' Chapel here where final rites will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday. The Rt. Rev. Msgr. Christian LaBonte, Nauvoo, will officiate. Burial will be in Oakland cemetery here.
