Gertrude Edith Armstrong, 34 years old, wife of Charles A. Armstrong 1016 Fulton street, died here this morning. Her death was due to uraemic poisoning resulting from child birth. The baby, Ruth, survives.
The deceased was widely known in this state as well as in Keokuk, for her work in the Rebecca lodge with which she had been actively identified for a number of years. Her work in this order began before her marriage when she lived in Decatur, Illinois. It was continued after she and her husband came to this city to make their home.
While she had not held a state office in the order she had, at different times, occupied various chairs in the local chapter. At the time of her death she was captain of the degree team. Her fine personality made her the object of the affections of all members of this order and her loss will be deeply mourned by them.
She was actively identified in Y. W. C. A. work in this city and also prominent in the affairs of her church St. John's Episcopal.
The deceased was born in Decatur, Ill., September 20, 1880. She was married at that place to Charles A. Armstrong, then of this city but formerly also of Decatur. She and her husband moved to Keokuk thirteen years ago and had made this city their home since that time.
The arrangements for the funeral have not yet been made. The services at the home, however, will be conducted by Rev. John C. Sage, rector of the St. John's Episcopal church. The local Rebecca chapter will have charge of the services at the grave.
The deceased is survived by her husband and daughter, by her father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. T. C. Kitchen of Decatur; by four brothers, John, William, Berton and Raymond Kitchen of Decatur and by two sisters, Mrs. Henry Keeler and Mrs. N. Benifield, both of Decatur.
Mrs. Armstrong and her husband are very well known in this city and their many friends extend the deepest sympathy to the bereaved husband.
